It looks a little too close to goplan’s design but the problem is that goplan isn’t really that innovative either. All of these project sites look the same, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Design is often more than just colors and graphics. A good design is sometimes familiar because it makes it easier to use. Ever wonder why openoffice and word and Google Docs have such similar interfaces?
I’m a bit disappointed in the lack of originality regarding the design. The graphical layout is far from an “influence,” it’s exactly the same.
Since we still didn’t get an explanation for the usage of our design for Goplan, I’m emailing the organization for clarification. Interestingly, you guys chose to rip off the design off of a team of individuals who also happened to be participating. How completely bonkers is that? Email me at fred at webreakstuff.com and explain yourselves.
Between using goplan.org’s graphics/layout and soshiku.com’s app, I question if you guys even stuck to the 48 hour rule.
I like it. It took a while to review because of all the features. Impressive that you got that many features into the app. Everything works as advertised. Simple to use. I could see how this would be useful (if I were a student again!). Nice that you made it iPhone friendly. I took a similar approach on my app for the iPhone version: it’s simply the same views and actions with certain parts of the views and css disabled.
++ on the soshiku clone. It’s one thing to enter a similar product to an existing one. It’s another thing to blatantly clone the structure and layout.
I mean, probably have been tired :>)
Hey guys, congrats! That’s a very gook work for 48 hs, you must be tired at Monday!
@Doug Thanks. Ah yes, sorry I made a hasty response earlier as I am at the day job. Thanks again.
Looks like you guys worked like crazy to get this made, good job. I think Jacko meant that soshiku is a similar concept, but personally, I’d never seen/thought of a planner for students and think your execution is fantastic.
@jack1980 It’s the standard way to do a tour these days. See Basecamp for example, which was around before Soshiku. And yes we did it all in 48 hours, 42 to be exact. The mobile version simply disables stylesheets and javascript, where the iPhone version was just slight modifications to the existing views.
http://www.soshiku.com/tour – pretty darn close – so i don’t understand the score for innovation.
and you really did this in 48h? … all this and mobile and iphone …
@dancroak We went with a standard dashboard approach for the design. If you have any suggestions on how we can break away from that and better enhance it while keeping it functional, please let us know.
Design feels a lot like Basecamp. Not sure if that’s a good thing or bad thing.
Seeing as how I’m currently a college student, I can see this being put to good use.
I like it!
